Textbook:  Final Cut Pro from PeachPit Press Recommended Readings
New Media in late 20th century Art by Michael Rush
Course Objectives: Learn multiple ways to tell a story from a specific point of view. Experiment with the relationships between sound and
picture, still and moving images, graphics and video		  
Course Description: Introduction to digital video. Audio and video
recording basics. Simple editing and post-production with Final Cut Pro and IMovie. Weekly screenings and class discussions to deepen the understanding of film and video language.		  
Grading: Your grades will be based on both technical ability and creativity. Creativity is your own unique approach to the assignmmnet or problem, Technical ability is straightforward and relates to how well the technique suits the imagery.
Attendance is mandatory. After three absences you will be dropped from the class. Do not be late. If you are late three times, it will constitute one absence.
Oral presentation 10%
Weekly assignments: 30%
Midterm project: 20%
40% - Final Project must be turned in on a WORKING DVD that I will KEEP! It must include all assignments given in class. 		 
Materials:

5 pack of DVDR+ from http://store.apple.com/
Mini DV tapes from B&H or similar at least 2
Zip and CDR discs as needed
Cds-each cd can hold approx 4min and 40 sec of video footage
1 vhs tape- for final project
Recommended: external firewire hard drive of minimum 30 gigs

assignment - Digital Narrative or non narrative sequences 		Look at Duane Michals work in class. Discuss Ken Burns style documentaries.

Assignment Storyboard a 3 minute video with at least 5 scenes. Bring it to next class		 How camcorders work
Week 5 Look at storyboards
Using the DV cameras - Form teams of 2-4 students
Assignment - shoot footage for your video bring to class next week.		 Look at early Wegman videos in class.
Week 6 Getting Video into Imovie and Final Cut Pro
Assignment - Shot log of favorite TV show 		 The originality of the avant gard and other modernist myths
Week 7 FCP Basics
