APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO MASTER OF FINE ARTS PROGRAM (MFA)- International Students please use proper application and provide additional documentation required. APPLICATION DEADLINES: Please read carefully - application deadliens for Fall 2004 admission to the MFA have been extended. To be considered for an Arts and Sciences Dean's Fellowship, all application materials must be received in the Department of Art by January 7, 2004. To be considered for a Teaching Assistantship, applications must be received by February 10, 2004. Applications received after February 10 will be considered for admission to the MFA, but will not be considered for a Teaching Assistantship or Fellowship. The Department of Art does not accept applications for Spring admission. UB's MFA program is competitive so it is critical to apply early. The graduate student population averages around 26; we admit around 13 new MFA students each year out of over 80 applicants. We encourage you to contact the Director of Graduate Studies, Professor Reinhard Reitzenstein, to arrange an in-person visit in advance or concurrent with your application (rr33@buffalo.edu or 716 645-6878). APPLICATION PROCEDURE AND REQUIREMENTS: 1) Complete on-line application form and submit 2) Send the following materials by the deadline date above to: Director of Graduate Studies, UB Department of Art, 202 Center for the Arts, Buffalo, NY 14260-6010. 3) Work samples: 20 slides or CD with checklist indicating date, medium/format, scale or any other pertinent information. For CD submissions - see guidelines below. 4) Detailed Official Transcript with indication that your undergraduate degree has been conferred. 5) Resume of professional accomplishments 6) Mimimum of two signed letters of reference, preferbly from a fromer instructor or professor 7) Applcation fee of $35 payble to the University at Buffalo (or pay electronically) International students must also provide: official, signed financial form with original documents (bank statements) to verify funds available; an officially documented TOEFL score from ETS; English translation of transcript and proof of degree. STATEMENT OF INTENT To be considered for admission to the MFA, including consideration for a Dean's Fellowship and/or Teaching Asssitantship, applications must include a statement of intent. The statement should concisely and articulately disucss: the content/focus of your work to this point, as represented in the work samples submitted; the proposed focus of your graduate study at UB; and expectations regarding your MFA study. Ideally your statement should demonstrate historical awareness of the field and your relationship to it. Your statement may also include descriptions of your unique interdisciplinary interests/motivations/qualifications/accomplishments and future goals. If applying for a Dean's Fellowship, keep in mind that your statement will also be reviewed at the College level by faculty from disciplines outside of, and with little knowledge of the arts. GUIDELINES FOR CD-ROM SUBMISSIONS CD-ROM presentations are acceptable but only if we can view the work! Images should be on a brower/website/slide show or other interactive presentation where we can click through images easily. A JPEG/HTML cross-platform format is recommended.
